Jewellery Care

Rules of Thumb

  • Keep your jewellery in individual boxes or soft pouches and store these in a cool, dry place to prevent scratches and tarnishing.
  • Remove all jewellery when doing household chores, exercise, swimming, showering, (and even dressing, as the prongs can easily get caught on your clothes!)
  • Regularly inspect your jewellery for any loose stones, pulled prongs, and seek professional advice immediately if you notice something is wrong.

Metal Care

GOLD

Yellow & Rose Gold Care

Yellow and rose gold should be kept in separate boxes or soft pouches to keep it from scratching. Avoid contact with soap, as it can give gold jewellery a dull appearance. This can be easily rectified by polishing with a specialist jewellery spray and a soft cloth.

White Gold Care

Most white gold items are plated with rhodium to give them a bright white surface. Over time, this surface may lose some brightness as the plating comes off, exposing the natural yellowish-white tone of the gold underneath. You can re-plate your ring easily at your local jewellers or send it back to us to re-plate. Please contact us for assistance with rhodium plating info@aldenross.com.

PLATINUM & PALLADIUM

Although these two metals are durable, whilst wearing your platinum or palladium jewellery, it’s best to avoid carrying out heavy chores, sports and other activities where it may come into contact with hard surfaces. Over a period of time a natural patina develops over the outer surface that doesn’t impair the quality of your jewellery. This can easily be polished away.

Stone Care

DIAMONDS

Daily wear can take a toll on your diamonds. Ordinary wear, including the use of hand lotions and hair care products can all cause buildup that can leave a hazy film that will eventually cause your brilliant diamond to appear dull. To keep your diamonds looking their best, avoid using lotions while wearing your jewellery, and remove when doing household chores, showering, swimming, etc. Professional cleaning is recommended once a year to keep your ring looking its best.

GEMSTONES

Examine your jewellery regularly to ensure your settings are secure. Professional inspections are recommended every six months and immediately after any time your jewellery is damaged, hit, or scratched. Avoid harsh chemicals including chlorine or detergents coming into contact with your jewellery, as they also may erode the stone and cause the colour to dull. For a quick clean, simply wipe the stones with a soft cloth.
